Bovey Tracey’s open-air heated swimming pool will be opening for the 2026 season on Saturday 25th April. This follows a hugely successful Festive Dip when the clear, dry weather was perfect for swimmers over the Christmas and New Year. Thanks to all those people who came along and enjoyed their time at the pool. Feedback included:

Thanks also to the volunteers and lifeguards who made the event such a success, and to Chris Sims at the Jolly Roger for providing the models which made such a great Christmassy atmosphere.
Work is currently underway to install walk-in steps to the shallow end of the pool. Although there is a disabled hoist available, the only other access to the water has been via ladder steps. These require a certain upper body strength to enter and exit the water. This is preventing seniors and those with physical challenges using the pool. New walk-in steps will ensure these people, who often need the pool most, will be able to use it with dignity and take advantage of the health benefits which swimming offers. This complements our existing provision with accessible site access, a fully equipped accessible changing room and a new state-of-the-art hoist.
We will also have a new toddler pool for the 2026 season. The existing toddler pool had developed a leak and needed to be reconfigured to ensure sufficient space for the new walk-in steps to be constructed. There are now coloured lights, water jets and a fountain to entertain our younger pool users (and their parents!) and encourage confidence in the water.
Our aim is to have a fully accessible pool which will help people of all ages lead a happier and healthier life. The Pool is an essential resource to our local health and care system, as well as being a valuable and valued part of the local community by improving wellbeing, physical and mental health, and social connectedness.
