Moretonhampstead Secret Gardens
Tue 3 May 2011
Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th
June
Now in its seventeeth
year, the Moretonhampstead Secret Gardens event continues to go
from strength to strength. A number of
gardens and allotments in and around the Moretonhampstead and North
Bovey will be open to the public over the weekend of 11th and 12th
June, some opening for the first time.
Opening hours for all
the gardens will be 11.00am till 5.00 pm on both days.
A free of charge bus
service will be on hand to take visitors to the more outlying gardens. Parking for private cars is also available
both in the village centre and at some of the gardens.
Lunches and/or cream
teas will be available at some of the gardens.
These have always proved very popular with visitors. One garden will include a display of mosaic
garden artefacts.
Tickets, maps and
descriptions of the gardens will be available from 1st June at the
Moretonhampstead Information Centre ( 01647 440043 ). They will also be on sale
in the village square over the weekend itself.
The entry charge is £5 per person, covering all the gardens and valid
throughout the two days. There is no
charge for accompanied children under the age of fourteen.
This popular event
welcomes around 500 visitors every year an increasing number of whom are making
a full weekend of their visit. A number of B&B’s in and around the village
welcome visitors every year. Further information at www.moretonhampstead.com.
The weekend is organised
by The Friends of St Andrew’s and this year will be shared with The Friends of
St. John’s in North Bovey. Both are registered charities and. proceeds
are used to help cover the costs of structural maintenance and repairs at both
churches.
